JPEG (Gruppo riunito di esperti fotografici, gruppo autore della norma d"uso nella compressione di immagini)
JPEG compression
  • Continuously varied JPEG compression (between Q=100 and Q=1) for an [[abdominal]] [[CT scan]]
  • The DCT transforms an 8×8 block of input values to a [[linear combination]] of these 64 patterns. The patterns are referred to as the two-dimensional DCT ''basis functions'', and the output values are referred to as ''transform coefficients''. The horizontal index is <math>u</math> and the vertical index is <math>v</math>.

Definition

Joint Photographic Experts Group
<image, body, file format, standard> (JPEG) The original name of the committee that designed the standard image compression algorithm. JPEG is designed for compressing either full-colour or grey-scale digital images of "natural", real-world scenes. It does not work so well on non-realistic images, such as cartoons or line drawings. JPEG does not handle compression of black-and-white (1 bit-per-pixel) images or moving pictures. Standards for compressing those types of images are being worked on by other committees, named JBIG and MPEG. http://jpeg.org/. Filename extension: .jpg, .jpeg. See also PJPEG. (2000-09-11)

Joint Photographic Experts Group
The Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) is the joint committee between ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29 and ITU-T Study Group 16 that created and maintains the JPEG, JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, JPEG XT, JPEG XS, JPEG XL, and related digital image standards. It also has the responsibility for maintenance of the JBIG and JBIG2 standards that were developed by the former Joint Bi-level Image Experts Group.
Examples of use of Joint Photographic Experts Group
1. If a new digital image is taken, it must meet the following specifications: -- Image File Format: The image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format.
2. -- Scanner Resolution: Scanned at a resolution of 150 dots per inch (dpi). -- Image File Format: The image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format.
3. If a new digital image is taken, it must meet the following specifications: –– Image File Format: The image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format. –– Image File Size: The maximum image file size will be sixty–two thousand five hundred (62,500) bytes.
4. If the photographic print meets the Print Size, Print Color, and Compositional Specifications, scan the print using the following scanner specifications. –– Scanner Resolution: Scanned at a resolution of 150 dots per inch (dpi). –– Image File Format: The image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format. –– Image File Size: The maximum image file size will be sixty–two thousand five hundred (62,500) bytes. –– Image Resolution: 300 by 300 pixels. –– Image Color Depth: 24–bit color or 8–bit grayscale. [Note: Monochrome images (2–bit color depth) will not be accepted.] THE ENTRY There is only one way to enter the DV–2007 lottery. Applicants must submit an Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form (EDV Entry Form), which is accessible only at www.dvlottery.state.gov.  Failure to complete the form in its entirety will disqualify the applicant‘s entry. Applicants will be asked to submit the following information on the EDV Entry Form. 1.
